Monitoring and Evaluation Manager (m-f-d)

The Scope
Manage the implementation and maintenance of the FSC monitoring and evaluation system to ensure the generation of key results and related data.

Main Roles & Responsibilities
  • Contribute to shifting FSC international standards towards outcome-orientation by:
    • Providing inputs to standard setting processes (such as drafting intended outcomes, research, collaboration with revision leads, incorporating data insights from implementation, leading accelerated processes, etc.).
    • Leading the inclusion of data provisions in reporting standards and data definition standards by collaboration with respective process leads or by leading accelerated processes.
    • Providing inputs to interpretations of existing FSC requirements relevant to above aspects.
  • Provide an efficient and effective monitoring and evaluation system by:
    • Managing the implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation system for FSC certification.
    • Enhancing the monitoring and evaluation system by searching for new data sources and analytics (such as field-level, remote-sensing, desk-based, etc.)
    • Professional management of projects steaming from the monitoring and evaluation system.
    • Supporting monitoring and evaluation analytics, and associated learnings to demonstrate the value and benefits of forest stewardship, covering a range of environmental, social and economic topics.
    • Supporting the strategic planning and commissioning of external independent impact evaluations.
  • Ensure compliance with ISEAL codes of practice.
  • Any other tasks as assigned by the formal supervisor and project work as assigned according to special organizational needs.
Your profile
  • Education and Training: 
    • M.Sc. degree in a relevant field e.g., forestry, ecology, environmental studies, is required.
    • PhD degree in a relevant field is a strong asset. 
 
  • Working Experience, Style and Skills: 
    • At least 4 years of professional experience in forest management, monitoring and evaluation, academia, standard development, or certification scheme.
    • Experience with leading the design and implementation of innovative and complex projects.
    • Excellent data and analytical skills.
    • Strong understanding of FSC’s normative framework and its associated processes.
    • Knowledge and experience with certification schemes is an asset.
    • Working knowledge of common GIS and remote sensing techniques needed to monitor forests and interpret associated results.
    • Strong, documented project management skills (Agile project management experience is a plus).
    • Knowledge of statistical tests and concepts and experience with relevant software.
    • Ability to perform well while handling simultaneously several functions.
    • Solutions and service-oriented attitude to work.
    • Proven ability to plan and organize work.
    • A very strong sense for diligence and accuracy.
 
  • Languages and Communication Skills:
    • Fluency in English (spoken and written). 
    • Spanish and French is a plus.
    • Ability to constructively exchange on contentious topics.
    • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills including the ability to explain complex topics to non-knowledgeable audience.
 
  • Computer Skills – good skills in the use of/experience with:
    • Standard software packages (MS Office, especially MS Excel). 
    • Tableau or similar data management and visualization software is a strong asset.
    • Database management skills is an asset.

The Fine Print
  • Location: Bonn, Germany.
  • Working Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week.
  • Duration of Employment: Temporary contract - 2 years (extension possible, subject to satisfactory performance).
  • Starting Date: As soon as possible.
