Media Relations Manager (m-f-d)

The Scope
We are looking for a Media Relations Manager who brings solid expertise and a passion for FSC’s mission, to work with us in a multinational environment.

We are seeking a motivated media and press-savvy manager to support the media engagement team in the communication department effective immediately. The team functions as FSC’s primary point of contact for journalists and media outlets around the world, leading several projects and performing a range of media-related activities to global print, online and broadcast media. 
 
Operating on the front lines of media relations, the team is entrusted with safeguarding and building the reputation of one of the world’s leading environmental NGOs. Proactive media engagement in positioning FSC externally and ensuring the global narrative of the organization is a priority for FSC.
Main Roles & Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Programme Manager, Media Relations & Engagement (part of the communication team in the Engagement unit), the manager will:
  • Build and maintain relationship with key global media leaders and organizations in order to enhance the media coverage of FSC.
  • Develop and implementing media plans for key stakeholder engagement and management. 
  • Coordinate issues and crisis communication engagement
  • Lead and support the development and implementation of proactive media projects as per the annually developed media plans and strategies.
  • Develop and implement plans to position FSC as a thought leader in the area of forest management, certification, commercialization of forest products among other topics.
  • Coordinate the media engagement efforts for global fora such as CBD COP, UNFCCC COP.
  • Support in establishing and overseeing partnerships with the media organizations for long-term collaboration. 
  • Support FSC’s network, regional offices, and country offices in managing issues and media crises. 
  • Additional tasks as agreed with the Programme Manager.
Your profile
Education and Training:
  • Bachelor’s University degree in Print media, Broadcast journalism, public and media relations, mass communication, or a similar field. Master’s degree preferred.
 
Working Experience and Skills:
  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in the media or journalism space; or relevant communication field in a multinational organisation
  • Excellent English writing skills and the ability to shape messages for different audiences.
  • The ability to engage with journalists and media representatives to maintain positive interpersonal relations.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to perform well in a dynamic work pace.
  • Excellent organizational skills – proven detail orientation with project management and meeting deadlines
  • Natural and highly effective collaborator with ability to drive results through teamwork and establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations.
  • Deep commitment to responsible forestry and/or broad sustainability in alignment with FSC’s mission.
  • Project management skills.
 
Communication & Languages: 
  • Fluency in English (excellent spoken and written). 
  • Proficiency in another language a plus; particularly Spanish and French is an advantage.
 
Computer Skills: 
  • Competence with Microsoft Office suite (advanced PowerPoint skills).
  • Familiarity with media monitoring and reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (X/Twitter and LinkedIn).

The Fine Print
  • Location: Bonn, Germany 
  • Working Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week
  • Duration of Employment: Initial 2-year contract with the intend to convert to open ended. 
  • Starting Date: As soon as possible
  • Travel: Occasional travel is required.
