Country Requirements Manager/Officer (m-f-d)

The Scope
We are looking for an engaged Country Requirements Manager/Officer who brings solid expertise and a passion for FSC’s mission, to work with us in a multinational environment. FSC sets global requirements for responsible forest management, but many need local adaptation, resulting in country-specific normative documents. Developing these country-relevant requirements involves a robust process, collaboration with FSC Network Partners, and rigorous assessment of adapted content, all managed by twin programs in FSC's Policy and Performance Unit. This specialized role requires professionals who excel at deep, detailed document reviews, possess a keen eye for detail, and can maintain a global perspective. Main Roles & Responsibilities
  • Perform thorough content assessments of assigned national and regional normative documents (country requirements) against international FSC criteria, evaluating for rigor and appropriate levels of local adaptation, directly contributing to FSC's global implementation and the spread of responsible forestry. Key documents for assessment include: 

    • Forest Stewardship Standards (defining rules for forest management certification).
    • Risk Assessments related to Forest Stewardship Standards (influencing audit rigor).
    • FSC Risk Assessments for sourcing controlled material and ensuring compliance with regulations such as the EUDR. (designation of risks and establishment of mitigation measures)
  • Conduct necessary consultations and discussions with the developers of the content under assessment.
  • Present assessed contents and evaluation results in various forums as required.
  • Coordinate assessment timelines and priorities in conjunction with the process portfolio manager.
  • Actively participate in calibration sessions with colleagues to ensure consistent application of FSC requirements and the highest level of standardization in content assessments.
  • Participate in FSC's internal competence and accreditation programs.
Your profile
  • A minimum of an MSc degree in Forestry is required. 
  • Additional degrees in related fields (e.g., Ecology, Natural Resource Management) are a strong asset. A PhD degree is a very strong asset.
  • 3 to 5 years of professional experience in one or more of the following: Forest Management, Natural Resource Management, Certification, Monitoring & Evaluation, or Standard Development.
  • Very strong review and document evaluation skills, with the ability to comprehend complex content and assess its relevance and applicability within a given context using standardized approaches.
  • Exceptional skills in editing and standardizing documents for clarity, consistency (in content and style across various documents/publications), and precision.
  • Proven successful project management experience.
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) is essential.
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or French (spoken and written) is a significant plus.
  • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex topics clearly to diverse audiences, including those less familiar with the subject matter.
  • Effective conflict management skills and assertiveness.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations.

The Fine Print
  • Location: Bonn (Germany)/Remote. 
  • Working Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week.
  • Duration of Employment: Temporary contract - 2 years (extension possible, subject to satisfactory performance). 
  • Starting Date: As soon as possible.
