The Scope
This person is responsible for managing people, budget and processes within the communications unit across content planning and production: social media management, channel oversight, storytelling and visual production.
Main Roles & Responsibilities
Thought leadership:
Lead the design and execution of a comprehensive thought leadership strategy around FSC’s priority areas that positions FSC as a trusted leader in responsible forest management.
Event Promotion
Profile FSC at major events via compelling story-telling, thought leadership and social media management.
Social Media Content Alignment:
Ensure that communications content from across the house and regions is fed into social media planning and editorial calendar and contributes to the promotion of FSC’s three priority areas.
Lead the systematized identification of content opportunities to increase social media engagement across FSC SoMe channels.
Review, approve, and refine content which will be packaged for SoMe to ensure it reflects FSC’s brand voice, key messages, and platform-specific best practices.
Provide constructive, timely feedback on copywriting, visuals, and messaging to support team learning and improve content quality.
Monitoring & Evaluation
Strong experience of a range of communications analytics, M&E methodologies and tools.
At least five years experience iteratively applying M&E to improve communications performance.
Operations and Supervision:
To plan, monitor and manage workloads of staff across the comms team
To develop and manage budgets for all activities of the comms team.
To ensure staff reporting to the comms programme manager comply with the rules and regulations of FSC.
To lead the development of communication and related skills of staff within the comms team.
To ensure compliance with health and safety requirements of all staff under supervision.
Your profile
Education and Training: University degree in a relevant field (e.g. Journalism, Media, Communications or Marketing).
Working Experience, Style and Skills:
At least five years’ experience managing communications teams.
At least five years of professional experience working on media relations, social media management and event coordination and management.
Strong experience of implementing monitoring and evaluation methodologies to measure the success of communications campaigns.

Strong writing skills in multiple formats and for multiple channels.
At least eight years experience developing and implementing communications plans strategies.
Demonstratable ability to solve problems efficiently.

A strong sense for diligence and accuracy.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to plan and organize work.
Leadership: At least five years of managing staff.
Computer Skills – good skills in the use of/experience with: Standard software packages (MS Office). Adobe Creative Cloud skills are a plus.
Communication Skills:
English (spoken and written).
Spanish or French is a major plus
Exceptional writing skills, including the ability to shape messages for intended audiences.
Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
Experience in communicating with the media.
Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations.

The Fine Print
Location: Bonn, Germany.
Working Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week.
Duration of Employment: Temporary contract - 2 years (extension possible, subject to satisfactory performance).
Starting Date: As soon as possible.
Travel: Occasional travel may be required.
